Wat Kasattrathirat

Wat Kasattrathirat, Ayutthaya

Wat Kasatathirat or Wat Gasattratirat located at Thumbol Ban Pom, Amphoe Pra Nakorn Sri Ayuthaya is counted as one of the essentially ancient wats. It's original name is Wat Gasattratirat because it is built by a king when Ayutthaya served as the capital during Ayutthaya period. The name "Ban Pom" of the Thumbol refers to a citadel built by the former official of Ayutthaya kingdom named "Pom Jum Pa Pon". This citedel established outside in the west of the capital. Behind the wat lies a big field called "Thoong Prachet" which used to be occupied as a base by Burmese forces several times when they raid Ayutthaya as stated in the royal legend. As a consequence, the lastest wreakage of Ayutthaya in 2310 B.E. this wat is badly destroyed due to it's location on the bank of the river across from the capital. This incident scares away the residents wherever the enamy attacks the capital. People escape so as the monks of this wat which sooner deserted completely.

The renovation of this wat is managed in the early Rattanokosin period by Prince Khrom Khun Isaranurak (Ged) the nephew of King Rama I. The Prince has faith in Buddhism a great deal so that he renovates this wat all over again and appoint Buddhist monks to look after it ever since.

This Prince is the sixth son of Her Highness Princess Khrom Pra Sri Sudarak. His birth year is 2316 B.E. and the birth place is Khrung Thonburi. He is the Isarangkhoor's ancestor. The renovation he manages for this wat is almost like and overhaul since almost everthing is renewed. Moreover, he replaces the name, "Wat Gasattra" with "Wat Gasattratirat" which exists nowadays.

In the reign of King Rama IV, the elder priest or Thera Pra Kru Winyanuwattikhun (Song) builds up a new sala, 2 turin wihan, a sided-jedi, a sala Trimook as well as 3 other sala which facing north, south and west. These new buildings include a new chapel sponsored by Khrom Meun Ayulyaluksa Sombat (Prince Urai) of King Rama III (Uraipong's ancestor). The new chapel take 14 years to finish in 2422 B.E. as shown in the Rama V seal which placed in front of the hermitage "Trimook".

Prang behind Wiharn

Besides Pra Ubosod and Pra Prang, most of permanent things within Wat Gasattratirat existing nowadays are initiated to be built in the time of Pha Kru Winyanuwattikhun (Song). Therefore, the following abbots have to preserve them thereafter.

Wat Khunsan

Wat Khunsan, Ayutthaya

Wat Khunsan was probably established in 16th Century. The name "Wat Khunsan" was first mentioned in Ayutthaya chronicle 1584 A.D. referred that after Prince Naresaun declared independence at Klaeng, he gave the Royal Commander to the Mon people led by Phraya Kiad and Phraya Ra who followed him to settle down the Mon-Community in the land near Wat Khunsan.


In Rattanakosin Period, King Rama IV ordered Phraya Rajasongkram to renovated and to enlarged the temple buut the operation was unfinished and it was left in that condition since then.

Wat Jakrawat

Wat Jakrawat, Ayutthaya

Wat Jakrawat or Wat Chao Mon is not chronical mentioned in any local ducument. The ancient monument of its construction studies on the evidence from the archaeological excavation and the remains such as Chedi, recommend that this temple was building about the 14th - 15th century.

Wat Hasadavas

This temple could posibly built in middle Ayutthaya Period by observation the Architecture at of the remaining 2 chedis in the present day.

The major historic story of this era sayed that there was a war between the Thai and Burma about white elephants in A.D. 1563, the King Somdej Phra Maha Chakrapadi of Thai and the King Phra Chao Hongsawadee came to sign agreement to end the war between the two country at the stand building in the front between Wat Na Phramen and Wat Hasadavas which the Ayutthaya had to give away some of the white elephants.

Wat Dusitdaram

Wat Dusitdaram, Ayutthaya

The Chronical mentioned that this temple was builting by "Chao Mae Wat Dusit", the wetnurse of King Narai the Great and mother of Phraya Kosathibodi (Rex) and Phraya Kosathibodi (Parn). When King Narai the Great acceded to the throne, Chao Mae Wat Dusit go to became a nun at this temple.

The ancient monument Wat Dusitdaram is no record of the date of its construction studies on the evidence from the archaeological excavation and the remains such as Chedi, recommend that this temple was repaired in the middle of Ayutthaya period or in the end reign of King Thai Sa - King Borommakodth.

Wat Chang

Wat Chang having gained recognitiong as one of the greatest pagodas of Auytthaya, Chedi Chang Luang is a castle-like structure combined with bell-shaped pagoda features and square bases. Wat Borom Phuttaram

Wat Borom Phuttaram, Ayutthaya
This is a temple of community dwelling-monks, especially several high-ranking priests. King Phet Racha had it constructed in 1689 in area of his home town, named "Patong District." The principle edifice is the ordination hall surrounded by boundary walls. This temple has another name, "the temple of glazed-tiles," due to the yellow glazed-tille roof of the ordination hall.

The Chronical mentioned that Wat Ayothaya was builting before the Ayutthaya period. It was the temple of the Royal Palace of "Ayothaya city".
The ancient monument Wat Ayothaya is no record of the date of its construction studies on the evidence from the archaeological excavation and the remains such as Chedi and retnue chedis, recommend that this temple date back to the middle of Ayutthaya period or about the 15th - 16th century.
